How to Choose Your Outfit

Without the Stress

I totally get it! Choosing outfits can feel overwhelming. But it can also be fun! One of the easiest tools I recommend to my clients is the color wheel. It simplifies decisions and helps create looks that photograph beautifully without overthinking. Here’s the link to Adobe’s color wheel for you to play around with.

Here are three simple ways to use the color wheel when planning your outfit:

1. Complementary Colors
These are colors opposite each other on the color wheel (like blue and orange or purple and yellow). They create contrast and visual interest—perfect if you want your images to feel bold, dynamic, and eye-catching.

2. Monochromatic Looks
This means using different shades of the same color. For example, light beige, tan, and brown together. This approach feels clean, elegant, and timeless—great for portraits, personal branding, and fashion-forward sessions.

3. Similar (Analogous) Colors
These colors sit next to each other on the wheel, such as blues and greens or warm earth tones. They blend naturally and create a cohesive, relaxed look that photographs effortlessly.

When in doubt, keep patterns minimal, textures intentional, and choose colors that make you feel confident. The right outfit allows you to focus less on what you’re wearing and more on being present.
